Manama, Mar.27 (BNA): A ceremony marking the International Women’s Day was held today under the patronage of Council of Representatives Speaker Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal.
Al-Khalidiya Youth Society organized the virtual event which was held via videoconference, in cooperation with Quality Solutions for Consulting Company.
In a statement delivered on her behalf by Services Committee Chairman Mp Ahmed Al Ansari, the Speaker paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, hailing the royal care which contributed to enhancing women’s status.
She praised the role of the Government, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, The Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in supporting Bahraini women and integrating their needs in strategic plans.
She lauded the efforts exerted by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and Supreme Council for Women (SCW) President, which turned Bahraini women into a model to emulate on all levels.
The Speaker also praised Arab women for their crucial contributions and roles, as well as their active participation in their countries and in the international arenas.
A number of leading and influential women were honoured on the sidelines of the conference. These included Bahrain Bayan School Board of Trustees’ member and Education Commuttee Chair Shaikha Aseel bint Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Foreign Ministry’s Organisations Director Ambassador Fatima Al Dhaen, Ophthalmology Senior Consultant Dr. Ibtissam Al Alawi, billiard champion Dr. Nahla Al Seni, education pioneer Safiya Al Awadhi, Bahrain Bayan School Acting Academic Director and Public Relations Chief, Shaikha Noora bint Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Mariam Salman Al Ghatam, and Sama Bahrain Card Founder and CEO Areej Al Khan.
Shaikha Intissar Al Mohammed Al Sabah (Kuwait), Amna Ahmed Abdulla (UAE), Nadia bint Ahmed bin Dawood Al Balooshia, the first UN Goodwill Ambassador (Oman), and Saudi journalist and writer Nada Mansoor Ahmed Manshi were also honoured.
