Manama, Mar. 23 (BNA): Second Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, Jamila Ali Salman, chaired the fourth meeting of the GCC-EU parliamentary committee which convened remotely yesterday, March 22, with the participation of MP Ahmed Al Amer, Secretary General of the Representatives Council and Secretary of the parliamentary division’s Executive Committee Chancellor Rashid Mohammed Bunejma, and representatives of the GCC parliaments and National Assemblies.
The committee discussed a paper submitted by the Representatives Council on a unified stance of the GCC legislative councils in facing the European Parliament’s position regarding human rights. An agreement was reached on adding the human rights issue to become one of the topics to be discussed with members of the European Parliament.
The councils of the member states will provide the Secretariat General with their visions concerning a paper submitted by the Kingdom of Bahrain and the chapters proposed for the issue to be generalized on the councils of the member states.
During the meeting, the committee discussed the visions of the GCC member states regarding the parliamentary dialogue between the GCC countries and the European Union on energy reduction and transformation and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Gulf-European parliamentary cooperation in this field.
It is noteworthy that the paper came within the framework of protecting the environment and preserving natural resources, paying attention to sustainable energy programmes and supporting renewable energy, enhancing means of cooperation between the GCC and European countries, and exchanging experiences between the two sides regarding energy reduction and transformation, so as to achieve common interests.
