Shura Chairman receives AIPU Secretary General

Manama, Mar. 24 (BNA): Shura Council Chairman, Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, has emphasised the importance of the Arab diplomatic parliamentary work in achieving legislative integration at the political, economic and human rights level. He stressed the role of parliamentary diplomacy in boosting Arab solidarity and unity regarding issues of common concern.


The Shura Council Chairman was speaking as he received Secretary General of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), Fayez Al-Shawabka. He praised the decision to confer presidency of AIPU’s next session on Representatives Council Speaker, Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal. He also commended the efforts of AIPU Secretary General to promote performance of the union and enable it to achieve its goals. The Shura Council’s legislative accomplishments and their role in enriching the national legal and human rights record were also reviewed.


Al Saleh underlined the great importance accorded by the Kingdom of Bahrain to parliamentary diplomacy given its significance in dealing with various political, economic and human rights issues at the local, regional and international level. He stressed the key role played by AIPU in boosting pan-Arab parliamentary cooperation regarding issues and challenges facing the Arab countries.


The Shura Council Chairman asserted the need to promote Arab solidarity and strengthen parliamentary relations and cooperation in handling diverse issues. He also underscored the importance of consolidating relation between AIPU and the international parliaments to highlight the Arab legislative, human rights and political achievements to the world.


The AIPU Secretary General expressed utmost appreciation of the key role played by the Kingdom of Bahrain through its rich participation in AIPU. He wished the kingdom more progress in the legislative field and its reform march led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
