Manama, Apr. 2 (BNA): Member of the “Together for Human Rights Society”, Bashayer Al-Thawadi, has stressed that the politicised campaigns targeting Bahrain do not reflect the kingdom’s professionalism in dealing with the novel coronavirus pandemic, noting that such campaigns seek to undermine the kingdom’s achievements and serve foreign agendas, through clear and inhuman exploitation of the health crisis that the entire world is going through.
Al-Thawadi appreciated the efforts made by the Ministry of Interior and all its directorates and employees to ensure that all male and female inmates enjoy their rights guaranteed by the law and confirmed by international legislation, noting that the Ministry’s programmes and initiatives confirm the humanitarian approach adopted by Bahrain.
She highlighted the efforts exerted by the General Directorate of the Reformation and Rehabilitation, in line with the directives of Interior Minister, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, to put in place all necessary precautionary and health measures to limit the spread of the pandemic, noting that the General Directorate implements the highest levels of protection to inmates and detainees.
In this regard, she cited the General Directorate of Reformation and Rehabilitation’s vaccination of all registered inmates and detainees, in addition to the Interior Ministry’s application of the alternative penalties and procedures on inmates who meet the requirements, as well as its policy to adopt the ‘Open Prisons’ system.
These measures are living proof of the kingdom’s respect for the rights of inmates and detainees, keenness to put in place all preventive and precautionary measures to limit the spread of the virus, transparency in dealing with the pandemic and commitment to ensuring that all inmates enjoy their full rights guaranteed by local laws and international obligations, she said.
