Manama, Mar. 28 (BNA): Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Mutawa, the Chairman of the National Committee for Information and Population, praised the national efforts to highlight the status of the Kingdom of Bahrain for the international community. He stressed the government’s interest in international reports and its continuous work to achieve the sustainable development goals.
The Minister of Cabinet Affairs was speaking as he chaired the preparatory meeting to prepare the national report on progress in implementing the new UN-Habitat’s urbanization plan. The virtual meeting was attended by Minister of Housing, Eng. Bassim bin Yaqoob Al Hamer, the UN representatives and competent parties.
The Minister of Cabinet Affairs stressed the kingdom’s keenness on continuous implementation of urbanization plans, pointing out approval of the urbanization plan in 2016 during the UN-Habitat’s 3rd meeting.
Housing Minister, Eng. Bassim bin Yaqoob Al Hamer, presented a report on the achievements made in the urban development field and exploration of urban issues. He also dealt with the first voluntary report, in July 2018, which contained a special chapter on sustainable urban growth. He affirmed the efforts made in preparing the national reports and projecting the Kingdom of Bahrain worldwide, mainly regarding the sustainable development goals. He pointed out the kingdom’s leading status in preparing the national reports since the first meeting of the UN-Habitat in 1976.
For her part, Director of the Housing Ministry’s Housing Policies and Strategic Planning Directorate, Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Head of the report preparation task force, reviewed the chapters of the national report 2021. She shed light on the kingdom’s participation in the 3rd UN-Habitat Conference 2016 in which in the new urbanization plan was approved.
Shaikha Hessa pointed out continuous follow-up of the Housing Ministry on the implementation of the new plan, stressing the ministry’s keenness on highlighting Bahrain’s accomplishments in various fields.
HRH the Prime Minister’s Office, the Supreme Council for Women, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Works, Municipality Affairs and Urban Planning, Derasat and relevant UN agencies and parties participated in the preparatory meeting.
