Manama, Mar. 22 (BNA): The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication, represented by the Meteorological Directorate, will join the world in celebrating the World Meteorological Day, which is observed on March 23 every year to commemorate the establishment of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) in 1950. Every year, the WMO announces a slogan for the World Meteorological Day, highlighting the contribution made by the national hydrological and meteorological services to the safety and well-being of the society.
The organisation chose to celebrate the event this year under the theme “The Ocean, Our Climate and Weather” to showcase connection between the oceans, climate and weather in the Earth system. The WMO, being the UN’s specialized authority in climate, weather and water is seeking tirelessly to study the relation between the ocean, climate and weather to improve our understanding of the world, including climate change and reducing disaster risks.
